My maternal grandparents, Jewish Palestinians who spoke Arabic, Hebrew and Yiddish and worked hand in hand with their Palestinian neighbours. They fled Palestine in 1912 because of persecution by the Turks under the then Ottoman government. The baby girl is my mother.
